Point of views can be discussed while reading this book. Mouse has one POV and dog has another. As the animals enter the doghouse their POV about the dog changes.
In another book by the same author, A Birthday for Cow! , students can practice inference as well. After reading first, The Doghouse, then A Birthday for Cow!, ask them to infer how duck knew that cow liked turnips.
When asking students to predict or infer, I always preface it by asking them to say, “I am inferring… or I am predicting…” which helps them to make connections in their schema to future opportunities to predict and infer.
