Legend: Johnny was crazy, planted from Massachusetts to California

Truths: John Chapman was born in 1774.

His father worked as a carpenter during the Revolutionary War.

Johnny was sent to live with his grandparents.

At age 14 he goes to work for a farmer in the apple orchards.

He became a minister and plants orchards to sell the trees to travelers for 6.5 cents each.

His life’s work was mainly selling trees and planting orchards in Indiana and Ohio.

He dies of pneumonia in 1845 at the age of 70.

He owned 15,000 apple trees in Indiana and Ohio with equals 800 acres.  He owned two town lots in Mount Vernon.
