Organizational Strategies
Before beginning the school year check with your teachers to see what times they would like to bring their classes to the library if you have that option. I usually schedule the weekly class library time just before or after the teacher’s conference time, which gives the teacher an extra 30 minutes off on their library day. My students come once a week as a class to the library and as often as they can individually. I usually try to schedule all classes of a specific grade at the same time of the day, each day of the week. For example, I may see all of my third grade classes at 9:00 on the week day of their choice and stick with that same time for that particular group all year long.
To help students and parents remember what day to make sure their library books are at school, I print a label that says what day their library day is and place it on their take home folders. This will help parents to know what day they should check with their student about returning their library books each week.
Another helpful label for the take home folder is one that lists the passwords for the subscription databases.
